About universities and libraries

This web site is mostly concerned with archival holdings in the libraries of the University of London. University libraries, archives and the University of London itself can be fairly intimidating places if you are not familiar with them.

These guides describe what archives are, what the differences between university and public libraries are, and how the University of London is structured and organised. This should help dispell some of the intimidation.

The Helpers system is developed as part of the Accessing our Archival and Manuscript Heritage project, at Senate House Library, University of London, funded by the Laser Foundation and the EARL Consortium. Please see the project website for further details.
