EDMONSTONE, Sir Archibald (Sir Archibald Edmonstone's estate ledgers)
Senate House Library, University of London -- Special Collections
Overview
Rental ledgers from Ulster in the late 18th century. Only likely to be of use to family history researchers wishing to find evidence of the existence of an ancestor.
Detailed usage description
Sir Archibald Edmonstone's ledger contains rental records from 1780 to 1783 (and some loose material going back to the 1740s) for his estates in Ulster.
This may be a useful family history resource if you know you had relatives who lived in Ulster on Edmonstone's lands. The ledger gives a little information about the amount of land rented but in most cases it is not clear exactly where the lands are situated. Therefore this is likely only to be a useful collection to find evidence of a missing ancestor, and can give a small amount of contextualising information about rents paid.
How to tell if the collection is useful
If you send a query to stating that you are interested in MS 137 and giving the name of the ancestor you believe may have paid rent to Edmonstone, then they will respond with whether they are refered to in the ledgers.
If you plan to email the archivist with a query we suggest that you read our tutorial on how to do this most effectively.
