Detailed usage description

This manuscript volume contains a transcript of a speech by the Recorder of Chichester to King James VI and I. The Recorder thanked the King for visiting Chichester and touched on the recent and mythic history of Britain before requesting a licence to export grain produced in Sussex from the city's port in order to pay the costs of cutting a channel from Chichester to the sea.

The source could be used to add colourful detail to a local historical study of the Chichester area as it illustrates the Recorder's personal perceptions of history and sense of place.
