Links
This section of the site contains a set of annotated links to websites that we think you'll find valuable for researching your family or local history.
The list is not intended to be comprehensive (given the popularity of family history, this would be impossible anyway) -- we've picked out what we think are the best sites and annotated them to tell you why we think they're the best. If you think we've missed out something important please feel free to and tell us about it.
The links are grouped as follows:
- Beginners' guides to doing personal history research -- this site is not intended to be a resource for those just setting out on their research. If you are a beginner then this section will give you pointers to the best places to start.
- Local and family history organisations -- one of the best ways of doing any sort of research is to get support and help from like minded people. This section lists UK (and sometimes beyond) organisations which specialise in local and family history research.
- Tutorials and guides to making the best use of archives -- what are archives, how do you get access to them and what's the best thing to do when you get in them?
- Online archives -- many archives have now put lots of material online for you to view from the comfort of your own browser. Here are some of the most useful online archives for local and family historians.
